CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, featuring a groundbreaking variable-aperture camera alongside the new A20 Pro processor. These devices also offer extended battery life, enhanced professional-grade camera controls, and a more compact Dynamic Island. Both models operate on iOS 27 and include support for Apple Intelligence features, such as Siri AI. The new lineup is available in colors including black, silver, glacier, and burgundy, with preorders commencing on September 12 and the initial retail release scheduled for September 18.

The 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera marks the first time the iPhone introduces aperture control, utilizing six laser-cut blades that transition between four different settings to optimize light intake and depth of field, with users able to manually select these settings within the Camera app. Additionally, the new Pro controls grant direct access to shutter speed and white balance adjustments, while a histogram feature allows photographers to monitor exposure levels during framing. Apple has also expanded Photographic Styles, adding controls for texture and grain, enabling more refined adjustments before sharing images.

The range of the iPhone 18 Pro series also sees significant improvements in video recording capabilities. Users can apply Cinematic effects after capturing footage at up to 60 frames per second, and the time-lapse mode now supports recording in 4K with Dolby Vision HDR. Enhanced Audio Mix algorithms improve voice clarity and are capable of isolating music, and a new Apple Reference Image feature captures signed sensor data in an optional Reference mode, with Private Cloud Compute generating a reference image that can be compared against the primary photo within the Photos app.

Focus on Camera Control and Image Validation Enhances User Experience

The A20 Pro chip is built using a 2-nanometer process, integrating a six-core CPU with a seven-core GPU, which Apple claims delivers performance up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro. A Dual 16-core Neural Engine provides 32 cores dedicated to AI and computational photography tasks. To support this advanced hardware, Apple has redesigned its thermal system around a next-generation vapor chamber, which is three times larger than previous versions, enabling up to 40% higher sustained performance based on company testing.

Battery life has been improved across both Pro models, with eSIM-only variants gaining extra capacity due to the removal of the SIM tray. The iPhone 18 Pro offers up to 36 hours of video playback under Apple’s testing conditions, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max can reach up to 45 hours. Wired charging can bring the battery to 50% in approximately 15 minutes. The eSIM-only versions will be available in Bahrain, Canada, Japan, Kuwait, Mexico, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and other supported markets.

Siri AI Integration and iOS 27 Drive Software Enhancements

With iOS 27, Siri AI is introduced to the new iPhone models as part of the latest Apple Intelligence platform, beginning its beta rollout on September 14 for supported devices configured in English. Support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish is expected to follow in October. The assistant can leverage personal context from messages, emails, and photos when users seek information, and it can also respond to on-screen content and assist via the Camera app. Greg Joswiak, Apple’s worldwide marketing chief, emphasized improvements in camera, performance, battery life, and intelligence enhancements.

Pricing for the iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 in the United States, with the iPhone 18 Pro Max beginning at $1,299. Both models are available with storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB. Preorders will open at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12 in over 65 countries and regions, with sales beginning on September 18 in the initial markets. An additional 20 countries and regions will receive the devices on September 25, completing the rollout as planned.
